Music

I make music as a solo artist for dance projects, performances, installations, videos and podcasts under the name Agnes Szelag and Evon, check out my bandcamp where you can find work that has been released.

In addition to electronic manipulation and composition, I’m a trained vocalist and cello player. I’m fascinated by instruments of all sorts and have played and recorded guzheng, various harps, violin, viola, melodica, vibraphone, glockenspiel, psaltry, bells, drums, etc. I love getting a new instrument and diving into it and discovering its spectrum of sounds and my unique way of playing it.

I have been involved with various choirs over the past 8 years - Polynya and Temple of Light, focusing on Eastern European folk music with an emphasis on Georgian music. I studied Polish folk music as a youngster.

I have spent a lot of time developing my approach to improvisation in composition and playing with a lot of wonderful improvisors over the years. When I improvise I play acoustic cello and voice, but also love sets where I can use my electronics to manipulate my voice and electric cello. Links to performances with specific players can be found on my performances page.

Collaboration is a big part of all the work that I do and I have an ongoing project with The Norman Conquest named dokuro. We perform electronic and electro-acoustic music as a duo often accompanied by visuals. This music is always fully improvised, including all of our album recordings.

My duo with Marielle Jakobsons - myrmyr has been on hold for many years, but our music is timeless, check out our albums on Bandcamp. Portions of our performances were improvised but the compositions were strongly rooted in our Baltic heritage digging into Polish, Latvian and Estonian folk modes.

This demo page highlights my work by genre.
